Harmony Hammerheads Swim Meet 101

Swim Meet Best Practices:

  • All swimmers wishing to participate in a Swim Meet must declare through Swimtopia a week prior to Swim Meet or they will unfortunatley not be assigned any events.
  • Heat Sheets will be sent to parents prior to each weeks Swim Meet.  It is a good idea to either print them out or save to your phone for reference during the Meet.
  • All swimmers must check in with Swim Team Coordinator upon arrival prior to beginning of Swim Meet.
  • All Volunteers must check in with Volunteer Coordinator upon arrival prior to beginning of Swim Meet.
  • Chairs may be setup by the long side of the pool in orderly rows or in other designated areas.
  • Parents are responsible for getting their swimmers to the bullpen area 5 events prior to their event.  Please do not make the volunteers hunt for your child.
  • Parents should not be in the staging area or bullpen area as space is extremely limited.  These areas are reserved specifically for the volunteers and swimmers preparing for the next 5 events.
  • Event 43 is the halfway point of the Meet and when Volunteers switch from first half to second half.  Please be ready to go on time.

Things you may want to bring to the meet:

  • 2-3 towels
  • Sweatshirt
  • Sharpie (to write your child’s events on them as a reminder of what they are swimming)
  • Wear your team swimsuit
  • Goggles (may be good to have a back-up pair in-case your child loses track of their goggles)
  • Swim cap (if your child prefers one-swim caps are not required)
  • Cash for concession stand (venmo may be available, but not at all Meets)
  • A great attitude (these are the times your child will never forget)

Inclement Weather:

In the event of dangerous conditions due to the weather at the meets, the meet official and team coordinators will determine the length of the delay. Following a period of at least 15 minutes from the last clap of thunder, the meet will be restarted from the point at which it was suspended. If the delay lasts longer than 1 hour, the meet should be called and rescheduled if necessary. The meet is official after the 46th event (scoring heat only) has been completed.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct & Alcohol:

It is the mission of the Cherokee Summer Swim Association to provide a safe and fun environment for the children of the participating teams to enjoy all of the aspects of recreational swimming. The competition ceases to be fun when adults and swimmers behave in an unacceptable manner. Any unsportsmanlike conduct, either by a swimmer, volunteer, or spectator, will be cause for expulsion from the vicinity of the meet. The coach has the authority to dismiss a child from practice or a meet for improper behavior. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed on the pool deck during a swim meet or practice.

Swim Meet Dates:

  • Thursday, May 31 vs Orange Shoals (home meet)
  • Thursday, June 6 vs Woodmont (home meet)
  • Thursday, June 13 at Woodmont Knoll (away meet)
  • Thursday, June 20 at Woodlands (away meet)
  • Tuesday, June 25 at River Green (away meet)

Please be sure to declare for each swim meet on the Swimtopia site as soon as you know your schedule. It takes a lot of time to create Heat Sheets and we need to know which swimmers will be in attendance.
